 IN HOUSE BASIC ALIGNMENT TRAINING

 This course is designed for the technician or service writer who is new to car and light truck alignments or has been working in the industry for up to one year. Each class day is from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday. This course is approximately 40% hands-on and 60% classroom activities. Class size is limited to 8 students with a minimum of 3 students. The cost for the basic alignment course is $250.00 per person.

• After-market alignment kits for non-adjustable suspension systems

• Ride Height measurement and adjustment

COURSE OUTLINE

Course Objectives: It is the main objective of this course to familiarize each participant with the most commonly used suspension systems, steering systems, and the correct alignment procedures for these systems.

To accomplish these goals, this course will cover basic suspension design, basic steering system design, and basic alignment. Each participant will learn to read and understand vehicle specifications in all popular formats, as well as how to adjust the most common type of suspensions and also to deal with vehicles with little or no adjustments from the factory.

Each participant will see demonstrated the correct working relationship between suspension and steering systems. Also, the effects of each alignment angle will be discussed in depth. Each participant will take part in actual alignment exercises to learn the correct alignment procedure for each type of suspension.

Basic Alignment Class Course Goals and Objectives

  After completing this class, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate proper safety procedures for steering and suspension system service.
  • Describe the information provided on most automotive tires.
  • Explain tire information as it relates to vehicle loading, handling, and alignment.
  • Recognize most types of suspension systems used in passenger vehicles Identify individual suspension system components, and understand the function of each component.
  • Inspect and test each suspension system component properly
  • Identify individual steering system components and understand the function of each component.
  • Inspect and diagnose steering system component properly.
  • Recognize the effects of worn or damaged steering or suspension system components have on the vehicle’s handling characteristics.
  • Examine and understand specific customer concerns as related to suspension and alignment.
  • Understand and explain common alignment angles such as camber, caster, toe and thrust angle.
  • Read and understand common published alignment specifications
  • Describe common alignment adjustment procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to align a vehicle using published alignment specifications and procedures.
  • Explain the different types of adjustment procedures on different suspension systems.
  • Understand some of the variety of aftermarket products available for special alignment problems
